Text. We have to use a text
which is not copyright-restricted and so have used the 1904 BFBS edition. This is about as close as we can get to the
sort of eclectic text which the UBS GNT (1st edn 1966, through to 4th edn 2001)
gives us without breaking copyright.
The 1904 edition
carries this self-description in the “Advertisement” on page v:
"The text of this Greek Testament was in
the main first published by the Bible Society of Württemburg at Stuttgart in
1898. It was prepared for that Society by Professor Eberhard Nestle, D.D., of
Maulbronn, and he revised the several editions which followed the first one. By
kind permission of the Württemburg Society the British and Foreign Bible
Society was permitted to adopt its latest text (the 4th) and to publish it in
England under Dr Nestle's care in 1904.
The text is the resultant of a collation of
three of the principal recensions of the Greek Testament which appeared in the
latter half of the 19th century, viz. those of Tischendorf, editio
octava 1869-72 (as reproduced in the 4th edition by Oskar von
Gebhardt, 1898); of Westcott and Hort,
1881 (impression of 1895); and of Bernhard
Weiss, 1894-1900 (second edition 1902)."

Pronunciation. There are
deep and scholarly debates about the pronunciation of Koine Greek. Our concern has been for clarity and
consistency rather than to make a contribution to these debates.
